Arts Leader Sentiment Survey

Conducted first in Spring 2013 and again in the Fall of 2013, the Arts Leader Sentiment Survey collects and disseminates the opinions of national arts leaders in order to provide near-time arts leader attitudes on the cultural sector climate. This research builds on work by Abruzzo Associates and is administered via an Internet survey. The 2013 Survey sample consisted of 2,756 arts leaders from across the nation. 201 responded for an 7.3% response rate. The survey was live from September 30- November 1, 2013, and was administered via email with two follow-up reminders. On future surveys, we will repeat the questions to observe trends.

The survey results are categorized into seven distinct issue areas: local conditions in the cultural sector, attendance, earned revenue, contributed revenue, quality, risk taking and strategic change.

According to both 2013 surveys, the future looks bright for the arts and culture field with arts leaders projecting high optimism for earned revenue and the quality of their programs.
